OVER 60 people gave up their time to take part in a giant litter-pick this weekend in Hayley Green.
Grot spots in Lutley Lane were tackled by volunteers on Sunday morning with over 150 bags of litter collected by young and old.
The litter-pickers took advantage of Dudley Council closing Lutley Lane to give the picturesque road a real spring clean.
Organiser Rachel Whitehead was delighted with the results.
She said: "It was a tremendous success and showed true community spirit.
"Over 60 people came along, removed over 150 bags of litter and other random rubbish, in just under two hours.
"It was an amazing effort and fun too, I’d personally like thank everyone for coming, it was great to meet and chat with so many positive people."
Lutley Lane has been a target for fly tippers in recent years and the litter-pickers also had to clear away a bathtub, tyres, oil cans and other undesirable objects.
She added: "Hopefully our success may help to prevent litter and fly tippers from depositing in the area in future.
"The general public can also take vehicle registrations and report fly tipping and litter to the council."
Lutley resident Jackie Cartledge was impressed with the lane's transformation.
She added: "It was a brilliant day and the lane looks lovely now, thanks also everyone who got involved and to Rachel who did a marvellous job of the organisation."
Hayley Green and Cradley South Councillor Jeff Hill hopes the lane will remain litter and bathtub free from now on.
He said: "The litter pick was a great success - the army of helpers allowed us to get deep into the hedges and remove rubbish that had been there for years. Along with the usual drinks cans and food wrappers we found microwave ovens, tyres and even a bag stuffed with children's toys.
“We are planning another pick later in the year when the undergrowth has died back and we can clean even deeper.”
