A HALESOWEN councillor has got on his bike and helped to raise much-needed funds for a prostate cancer charity.
Cllr Stuart Henley joined his friend William Campbell on a two-day, 145 mile charity bike ride from Barnsley to Amsterdam.
Stuart, who works as a firefighter in Dudley, said: “As very amateur cyclists this was a challenge.
“There were about 380 riders who took part, and altogether raised well over £520,000 which is still rising, but me and Bill have so far raised more than £3,000 between us.”
The pair signed up to the event due to personal circumstances around the disease, as well as hoping to encourage more males to carry out regular prostate checks – either from their partners or the help of doctor.
William said: “The distance took its toll on certain parts of my body, but I will definitely be taking part again next year.”
Stuart, who will also be taking part again next year, added: “We would like anyone to come forward to sponsor the ride and get their names placed on our cycle tops.
“So far we have had local micro-brewery The Fixed Wheel add their name to the sponsorship list, for which we are very grateful.”
