A seaside town in the North East home to three white sandy beaches has been named among Britain’s "coolest, prettiest and quirkiest" - can you guess where?

The popular coastal spot of Tynemouth in Tyne and Wear offers the “perfect salty, seaside package” featured in Time Out’s latest travel guide (and ranked in 13th place).

Why is Tynemouth among Britain’s best seaside towns?

Time Out has explained Tynemouth could be “Britain’s coolest town”.

If you’re wondering why it's worth a visit, the travel experts said: “Eight miles outside of Newcastle, Tynemouth manages to perfectly merge artisan city cool and wholesome coastal pursuits into the perfect salty, seaside package.

“Its three white sandy beaches are overlooked by a ruined priory and castle; a working lighthouse stands at the tip of its craggy headland; and it has a period high street crammed with traditional pubs and fish and chip shops.
