A DISCOUNT store selling items for under a pound is set to open in Halesowen later this year creating 30 jobs.
The 99p Stores unit in the Cornbow Shopping Centre will be the 85th store the Daventry-based chain has across the UK.
The store will be located at 59/61 Queensway – between Murray’s Chemist and the ASDA entrance – and will open in July.
While other businesses fold pound stores have been enjoying a thriving market as shoppers look to cut costs in the credit crunch.
99p Stores employs more than 1,800 people throughout the UK and will create 30 full and part time jobs at the Halesowen shop. Recruitment will take place through Job Centre Plus.
Cornbow centre manager Eve O’Connor said: “It is great news that 99p Stores will be taking on the space on the Queensway by the bus station which acted as the temporary entrance during the new ASDA and multi-storey car park development.
"Bargain hunters in Halesowen will be spoilt for choice.”
Shoppers will be able to purchase more than 3,500 product lines for less than one pound at the new Halesowen store which will sell other items such as bikinis, sunglasses, sun lotion, flip-flops and a lilo, for less than a five pounds.
One lucky shopper could be in with a chance of being a VIP when the store opens in July.
The lucky Halesowen VIP will be invited to cut the opening ribbon and take part in a 99-second trolley dash around the store.
To be in with a chance of winning, answer – in nine words – ‘Why I love a bargain!’ Email answers to halesowen@gbpublicityltd.com. The closing date is 10am on Friday May 29.
