THE 11th annual Tree of Life appeal has been launched in Blackheath by the town’s community and business association.
For the third year running the tree used will be the cherry tree at St Paul’s Parish Church, Long Lane.
It will be illluminated on Friday November 16, at 5.15pm.
Founding organiser Mary Docker, secretary of the Blackheath Community and Business Association, said people can sponsor a light in memory of a loved one who has died for a minimum £5 donation.
The names will be listed in a roll of honour and displayed on the four information boards, which have recently been refurbished, in the town during the Christmas season.
Proceeds raised from this year’s Tree of Life will go to the the Bridges Support Service which helps people with cancer and other palliative care needs in Sandwell.
Its services include respite care; advocacy; transport; complementary therapy and benefit advice.
Mrs Docker said: “It’s a worthy local organisation.”
Anyone wishing to sponsor a light should contact Mrs Docker at her Moonbeam Textiles stall in Blackheath Market.
