A choir helping people with dementia in the Black Country will continue its work after receiving a cash boost.

The 'Shine a Light Dementia Choir', based in Dudley, is run by staff from the older adult’s service of the Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, received a donation from West Bromwich Building Society.

The choir is a key project of Black Country Brighter Lives, the trust's charity.

The scheme offers a place for those diagnosed with dementia, and their carers, to socially engage and reap the benefits of music therapy.

It relies entirely on donations to operate, with funds also going towards therapeutic gardening activities and Christmas gift funding for Berkley Hospital inpatients.

The building society's recent donation of £600 was made through the Mercian Community Trust.

Manisha Patel, charity engagement officer at Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, who received the cheque, said: "Black Country Brighter Lives could not carry out its vital work without the support and generosity of donors.

"We would like to extend a big thank you to West Bromwich Building Society for backing our Shine A Light choir which makes a real difference to people living with dementia and their carers.

"This kind donation will help us make sure more people can get involved with the choir and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of music."
