THERE is going to be a murder mystery in Oldbury this month.

Curtain up on Murder by Bettine Manktelow is running at the Oldbury Rep from Saturday, May 11 until Saturday, May 18.

Alan Wood, Oldbury Rep press officer, said: “Curtain up on Murder has all the ingredients of a classic who-done-it and will keep the audience on the edge of their seats until the final curtain.”

The story involves members of a seaside town’s amateur dramatic society rehearsing a murder mystery in an old end of a pier theatre.

“A raging storm breaks out, the actors try to leave but discover that they have been locked in.

“A series of unexpected and unexplained murders and ghostly apparitions make it obvious that someone or something has murder on their mind.”

The production is dedicated to the memory of long standing Oldbury Rep member Tom Bird who died in March.

Tom, from Stourbridge, who died aged 73, was one of the company’s best actors, much loved by members and audiences.

Mr Wood said: “He appeared in 58 productions as well as directing six shows and was made a life member in 1989 and his last role was as Mr Grainger in our production of Are You Being Served in 2007, his favourite role was that of band leader Danny in the 2006 production of Brassed Off.

“His wife Sandra and daughter Toni continue as valued members of the company and Toni will be appearing in Curtain up on Murder.”

The production runs from Saturday 11th May until Saturday 18th May, excluding Sunday and performances start at 7.30 pm.
