SCHOOLS, residents and councillors are celebrating their successful campaign for a pedestrian crossing on a dangerous stretch of an Oldbury dual carriageway.
Unaccompanied schoolchildren, parents with pushchairs and older residents frequently need to cross the road at the junction of Wolverhampton Road (A4123), Queensway and Parsons Hill.
Oldbury town lead member Councillor Steve Trow said: “This has long been a worry for families and older people in the area.
“Pedestrians often found themselves stranded on the central reservation with traffic passing constantly on both sides and at high speed.”
With the help of Perryfields High School and three local primary schools, a 500-name petition was put together and submitted by local councillors last year.
The need for the crossing was also strongly supported by residents at meetings of Old Warley Neighbourhood Forum.
