PREPARATIONS are underway for the Coombeswood Canal Trust open weekend in Halesowen.
The open weekend, which is being held on Saturday, May 18 and May 19, will see canal boat enthusiasts from across the region descending on Hawne Basin.
Jon Jones, from the Coombeswood Canal Trust, said: “The Trust’s annual open weekend is nearly with us and it promises to provide an interesting and fun few hours for all the family.”
“The event will be formally opened by James Morris MP at 11am on Saturday, May 18, so we are urging local residents to please come along and be part of this.”
As well as narrow boats to enjoy there will be live music, a real ale bar, refreshments, Appalachian Dancers, Waterways societies displays, live music and entertainment for children.
Hawne Basin, off Hereward Rise, provides moorings for over eighty narrow boats and has two historic ex-working boats Atlas and Malus.
The basin is still a working boat yard and not just a marina.
For more information visit www.hawnebasin.org.uk and admission to the open weekend, which starts at 10am on both days is free, free parking available.
