Shocked residents and workers have been speaking of their experiences after gun shots were fired on a Shell Corner street.

Victoria Road was closed by police for more than 17 hours after two cars were reportedly shot at several times on the evening of Monday May 7.

Bullet casings were recovered from the scene and are being forensically examined, with officers still trying to trace occupiers of the vehicles involved.

Khushnood Alam, who lives on the road, said he was not aware of the incident until police arrived shortly after 7.45pm.

He said: "We were decorating our home, and didn't hear anything. Then I walked outside and saw the police, it was a bit of a shock. By morning the road was still closed, people could not use their cars to go to work and businesses could not get in."

Jonathan Maddocks, who works at Peter Maddocks Garage, said two cordons were set up by police.

He said: "People with property in the outer cordon were able to get in to phone customers and tell them what was happening. Anyone whose premises fell within the inner cordon could not do anything until the whole road re-opened."

Though it is believed no injuries occurred in the shooting, police said they were treating the matter very seriously.

Superintendent Stuart Johnson said: "Our enquiries to date suggest this was not a random incident but that the two cars may have been deliberately targeted, and the individuals involved may be known to each other."

Anyone with information should call 0845 113 5000 and speak to officers at Halesowen police station.
