Shoppers in Halesowen will get the chance to find out more about the new Smokefree legislation when an information trailer visits the town this week.

Staff from Dudley Council's environmental health team and Dudley NHS Stop Smoking Service will be on hand to tell people what the new legislation will mean.

The advisors will staff a trailer in Somers Square today, Thursday (May 10), and tomorrow, Friday (May 11) from 10am to 4pm. They will give out information leaflets, give away stress balls and pens and offer free carbon monoxide readings to smokers.

The new law means virtually all enclosed and "substantially" enclosed public places and workplaces must become smokefree from July 1.

The legislation includes offices, factories, shops, pubs, bars, restaurants, membership clubs, public transport and work vehicles used by more than one person. People who do not comply with the law will be liable to a fixed penalty notice or prosecution.

Anyone who wants help to give up smoking can call Dudley Stop Smoking Service on 0800 0850 652.
