A bright Halesowen College student has gained a young innovators award in the finals of a national science competition.
Second year student Emma Thompson, who is also a college ambassador, took the top prize in the annual CREST contest.
The award includes a new laptop plus a prestigious work placement with leading pharmaceutical company, Astra Zeneca, at its Loughborough research department.
Eighteen-year-old Emma said: "I'm really pleased to have won this award.
"Astra Zeneca were very impressed with my presentation at the finals and were looking for someone hoping to pursue research-related studies.
"I will be taking up the placement at Loughborough in the summer after my A levels.
"I am really looking forward to it and also feel the company will be a great contact for future industry-related placements."
Curriculum Development Manager, Penny Riddle, said: "We are very proud of Emma's achievements.
"We wish her all the best with her work placement."
Emma, a former pupil of Shenley Court School, hopes to study medical science at Bimingham University later this year.
