At the club's May meeting, Mrs Christine Johnson deputised for Mrs Cynthia Slade and after welcoming everyone gave the club notices and reminded everyone of 2 events in June: the open evening on 13th (details below) and the outing to Trentham Gardens on 28th.

Thanks were expressed to all members who had brought along plants for the plant stall. Almost £200 was raised for the charity we support - Kidney Dialysis Patients Support.

She introduced our demonstrator Mrs Anna Stevens (Oxford) whose title for the evening was "Enclosed and Enchanted".

As the title suggests, all her arrangements related to either the art of using space or places of enchantment.

A large open' nest-shape of intertwined vines etc held posies of mixed colourful flowers.

Delightful viewed from any angle - could be adapted to any season.

An enchanted place was the Barrier Reef which was depicted by using parrellel pieces of driftwood which held two complementary placements of sea-fans, shells and foliage with purple and pink flowers. This gave a good impression of an underwater garden, which was quite lovely.

A tall contemporary design in a modern framed pot held a green and white design using looped cornus, white gladioli, lilies and viburnum opulus. This was related to the story of Sleeping Beauty.

A very modern open design in a large black bowl consisted of long-stemmed red roses rising over a low design in reds and purples.

An open flowing design was created in a hollow' container made from contorted willow and reeds, using plant material in grey, green, yellow and blue.

An enchanting arrangement suggesting the beauty of the Secret Garden ended the demonstration.

This was a forward-flowing design in a tall bronze obelisk-shaped pot with a second placement at the base. Red/brown and grey foliage together with pink lilies, pale green carnations and purple tulips made a delightful traditional display.

Mrs Stevens gave a very innovative demonstration showing how space can enhance an arrangement, making it just that bit different and interesting.

Mrs Ann Tristram gave an appreciative vote of thanks on behalf of the club.

The flower club's next event will be held in the Cornbow Hall (above Wilkinsons), on June 13 at7.30pm.

Admission is £5.00. Doors open 6.30pm.

There will be a raffle, sales table, plant stall, tombola (proceeds for aforementioned charity) and refreshments.

The demonstrator will be Mr Jonathan Moseley, his title being "Joyous June". This promises to be a good night and everyone is welcome.
