Two energetic Halesowen couples are set to pull on their walking boots to complete 186-miles of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path to raise cash for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute.

Jean and Keith Hadley and Beryl and Geoff Cotter are set to undertake the mammoth walk later this month to mark the RNLI's 40th anniversary in Halesowen.

Cash will go towards a £1m appeal for a new state of the art lifeboat boasting all the latest technology for Angle in Pembrokeshire. It is hoped the target will be reached by the end of the year.

Jean, who has returned to full fitness after winning a brave battle against breast cancer, said: "It's my love of walking.

"I love to feel the wind and the sun on my face and a good feeling of being fit enough to enjoy it.

"It will mark 40 years of lifeboats in Halesowen, which is fantastic.

"In Angle there is a population of 360 - they provide 36 of those people toman the lifeboat 24 hours a day all through the year.

"That's ten per cent of the whole village there to help other people."

June Addison, RNLI's fundraising manager, said: "We need help to raise £1m by the end of 2007.

"The volunteer crew at Angle are amazing, turning out at any time of day or night, to risk their lives at any point, for strangers who simply were in the wrong place at the wrong time, and those whose lives are truly at risk."

The walkers hope to manage around 12-miles a day.
