Budding entrepreneurs at a Halesowen school are celebrating after being awarded for their originality.

Pupils involved in the Young Enterprise Scheme at Leasowes Community College defeated rivals from numerous other schools as they were named most enterprising company in the borough. Their company, called Pawz4thought, made a small profit after selling their embroidered socks product at a trade fair in March.

They now plan to donate the cash to charity.

Alex Matthews, aged 14, and Marketing Director in the group, said: "We gained a lot of experience in the business world and achieved what we wanted to.

"The judges said we worked really hard and we are confident of doing well in the Black Country finals."

More than 165,000 school-goers across the country are involved in the scheme, which teaches the basics of running a business.

Participants must start their own business from scratch and maintain it for 12 months.

They must raise their own capital, prepare company reports and even consider tax implications.

Events staged by the Leasowes team to raise funds included a sponsored car wash of their teachers' vehicles.

Simon James, Enterprise Co-ordinator at the school, said: "I think they have done excellently.

"They have shown great commitment and deserve the award for all the hard work they put in."

Pawz4thought will represent Dudley at the Black Country Young Enterprise final on Thursday May 24.
