A Halesowen resident claims land next to a busy Halesowen junction has been ruined by controversial roadworks.

Ian Beckett, who lives near to the junction of Stourbridge Road and Belle Vale, says the council has still made no attempt to re-grass a section of land left bare when work was completed.

He claims the site was used for recreation by residents and says children are now having to play in the street, creating a danger to themselves and motorists.

Mr Beckett said: "The remedial work promised is still to be carried out, despite written assurances from the council.

"I believe this situation is unacceptable."

Renovations last autumn came under repeated fire from residents and councillors, first after overrunning work to install a new pedestrian crossing caused lengthy traffic delays.

There was further outrage when a huge mobile phone mast was erected at the site.

Ward councillor Ken Turner said he agreed with the residents' concerns.

Ken said: "The area should have been re-seeded a few months ago and I enquired about it myself last week. I have been told it is scheduled for immediate action."

A spokesperson for Dudley Borough Council confirmed grass seed would be put down after the ground had been prepared.

She said: "Herbicide was sprayed on the area late last week and it will need at least a couple of weeks to take effect."
