OLDBURY school has closed to all pupils today - shortly after closing to two year groups due to staff self-isolating.

Perryfields High put out a letter to parents today stating that it been forced to close to all pupils because it had no hot water or heating due to a boiler tank leaking diesel.

Yesterday (Monday December 14) the school sent a letter to parents stating it was closing to years eight and nine from today (Tuesday December 15) until the end of term due to the numbers of staff self-isolating.

The letter from headteacher Ian Barton states: "We are closely monitoring the absence of students and staff who need to self-isolate.

"Due to the high number of teaching staff out of school, we have sought advice from Public Health England and the school will be closed to years 8 and 9, from Tuesday 15th December until the end of this term."

Halesowen News:

The letter about the total school closure due to the heating issue was sent today.

It reads: "Unfortunately due to a health and safety issue, we have been advised by the local authority to close the school to all students and staff with immediate effect.

"It has been discovered this morning that a boiler tank is leaking diesel.

"Over the course of the morning, the smell of fumes in the main hall has become increasingly strong - we have ensured no students have used the hall,

"As a direct consequence of this, the boilers will have to be switched off so the school will be without heating or hot water.

"We cannot apologise enough for the disruption this may cause to you all.

"We are hopefully the situation will be rectified as soon as possible and we will be in touch with you again later today through text message and social media to confirm if the site is safe enough for the students and staff to return to school tomorrow."
