TSB in Old Hill is closing today - bringing bad news for customers of the branch.

The TSB branch on Halesowen Road will close for the last time today (Wednesday May 26).

The news was confirmed by the National Federation of SubPostmasters (NFSP) which said it is continuing to serve customers as "banks continue to desert the high street in order to cut costs and increase their profits."

A spokesman for NFSP said: "This will doubtless be disappointing to TSB’s customers in Old Hill.

"However, alternative banking provision is available to local residents at post office branches nearby."

The spokesman said the nearest post offices are opposite TSB on Halesowen Road, Old Hill; Cradley Road, Cradley Heath and Saltwells Road, Netherton.

They said: "Each of these branches offers banking services - including deposits, free cash withdrawals and balance checks, as well as offering face-to-face access to government services, bill payment, foreign currency, travel insurance and, of course, postal services.

"Post offices are proving vital to retaining people’s and business’s access to cash as the banks continue to desert the high street in order to cut costs and increase their profits.

"Every post office plays a vital role within the heart of the local community.

"Post offices provide a reliable and essential service which has continued at a high standard across the whole of the UK throughout the pandemic."

A TSB spokesperson, said: “The decision to close the Old Hill branch was not taken lightly – but the way people are banking with us has changed dramatically with a big shift towards digital services.

"We have partnered with the Post Office, which offers customers access to cash and everyday banking services and the nearest Post Office branch is 0.1 miles away, on Halesowen Road.”
