A BIRMINGHAM woman has been jailed after being found guilty of causing serious injury by dangerous driving in Oldbury last year.

Leanne Webb was driving her Audi SQ5 in excess of 100mph on the A4123 Wolverhampton Road in Oldbury on 8 May 2019, when she collided with a Kia Venga being driven by a 28-year-old woman who was with her 18-month-old daughter.

As a result of the high speed collision the young mum suffered life changing injuries.

Her daughter also suffered serious injuries, but has fortunately made a full recovery.

Webb, of Wychall Lane, Kings Norton, maintained throughout the investigation that she was not at fault and ultimately blamed the other driver for causing the collision by turning across her path.

During the court trial Webb accepted dangerous driving but provided a defence of driving under duress which was not accepted by the jury.

His Honour Judge Berlin sentenced Webb yesterday (25 June) at Wolverhampton Crown Court to four years and four months imprisonment with a six year and 10 month driving disqualification.

She will be required to complete an extended driving test before being allowed back behind the wheel.

Sergeant Mark Crozier, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Witness testimony, CCTV evidence and forensic reconstruction were vital in this case proving that, at the point of collision, Webb was travelling at not less than 104mph along the 40mph dual carriageway.

“Her imprisonment will never compensate for the level of injury suffered by a mother and her young daughter.

“Once again the dangerous driving of one selfish individual has resulted in untold suffering for the family and friends of the victim, who will never fully recover from the devastating injuries she sustained as a result of this collision. She continues to receive rehabilitation treatment in a residential care facility.”
