What better way is there to get into the Christmas spirit other than a festive fundraiser and dance showcase? On the 7th December a Festive Showcase and Fundraiser event took place to raise money for Motionhouse and to allow people who take part in some of Motionhouse's dance classes to showcase their dancing skills to family and friends.

Motionhouse was founded in 1988, by Louise Richards and Kevin Finnan MBE. The company is well known for their unique and spectacular dance-circus performances, and there is something suited for everybody to enjoy, from productions for theatres, to large scale outdoor events, and even productions specially suited for young children. As well as these incredible performances, people of all ages can learn to dance with Motionhouse. They offer classes for people aged four, all the way to dance classes for over 60s. Not only do Motionhouse take pride in creating perfect, intricate performances, but they also take pride in ensuring that the services they offer are suited to people of any age.

The event was an opportunity for Motionhouse to raise money so that they can continue offering their amazing services. People at the fundraiser were encouraged to help to support the company by purchasing raffle tickets, merchandise, food and drink, and tickets for the range of performances that they were offering that night too. As well as being a way to raise money, the event was also an opportunity for the Motionhouse community classes to showcase what they have been working on in a professional theatre setting, and it was a chance for people to be able to watch the professional dancers perform.

Many young people who are either a part of the Motionhouse Youth Board or who attend some of the classes attended the fundraiser; Amelia Travis, who is part of the Motionhouse Youth group, and is also a part of the Youth Board, when asked what she enjoys about being a part of the Motionhouse company said “I love the community side of it, everyone’s so nice and is so friendly.” Another member of the Youth Board, Martha Harrison, in regards to what Motionhouse offers, said, “The shows that I’ve seen Motionhouse do I think are always very innovative, I think because they span across over circus and dance, it’s a very unique performance that they are offering people. I also really like the fact that Motionhouse are always trying to bring performances to places that perhaps don’t usually have them.”

The evening was a big success, and many people attended, supporting the Motionhouse company, and the dancers, who were able to showcase their amazing talent.
