Charles III and Queen Camilla Coronation
2023 has just got off to a start and already the excitement for the historic coronation of Charles III and Queen Camilla is building .The date for the coronation of The King and Queen has been confirmed as 6th May 2023 (thats less than 100 days away!) .This will be a hugely celebrated event as a coronation of the monarch has not taken place for just under 70 years ,since King Charles III’s Mother’s ,the late Elizabeth II , a year after she ascended to the throne to take over from George VI .
What is a coronation?
A coronation is a ceremonial event dating back more than 1000 years in which the crown of St Edward is placed upon the head of the monarch and other religious traditions take place .This ceremony has taken place in Westminster Abbey since 1066 and every monarch and their consort has been crowned there since .
Who are Charles III and Queen Camilla?
Charles III ascended the throne of The United Kingdom on 8th September 2022 upon the death of his mother ,Queen Elizabeth II .On that day, he bacame The King ,and his wife ,The Queen of The United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms .For 10 days after her death ,the country and The Royal Family ,officially mourned the late Queen Elizabeth until her state funeral on 18th September 2022 .
How can you get involved?
The celeberations of The Coronation will take place across the weekend of 6th May-8th May .On the 6th May the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla takes place and this can be watched live on BBC and other channels .On the 7th May a special coronation concert will take place at Windsor Castle and will be attended by members of the Royal Family (including the newly crowned King & Queen ,The Prince & Princess Of Wales and The Princess Royal & Sir Timothy Lawrence) – this will aslo be televised live .Also on the 7th May ,The Coronation Big Lunch will take place where neighbours and communities are invited to share food and fun together.Finally ,on the 8th May ,the Big Help Out will take place in which members of the public will be encouraged to try volunteering for themselves and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas .
