A POPULAR Bangladeshi restaurant in Halesowen has received a new five-star hygiene rating.
The Ameena on Hagley Road opened in 1974 and is a firm favourite with many Halesowen residents.
Its five-star hygiene rating cements its place as a top local eatery.
As the family restaurant approaches its 49th anniversary in March, local councillors and James Morris MP popped in to catch up with the restaurateurs.
Helal Ulislam, from The Ameena, said: “We take great pride in serving the highest quality food to the community.
"So we are very pleased to have our five-star food hygiene rating restored.
“Next month we will be celebrating our 49th year of serving the community.
"We love what we do here, and we are very grateful for all the support from the community.”
Customer and local councillor Simon Phipps said: “Anybody who knows me will know that I’m partial to a good curry, and they don’t come much better than The Ameena.
“The staff are friendly and the food has always been spot on.
"I’m pleased they’ve got their five-star rating back and wish them well as they get ready for yet another year of serving Halesowen.”

The Ameena was given a one-star rating in November 2021 after the Food Standards Agency said "major improvement was necessary" in the management of food safety, which is the "system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future."
The restaurant said at the time it was an issue to do with allergen information which needed to be updated.
The Food Standards Agency carried out another inspection last November, which has now awarded the Ameena a top five-star rating.
