DUDLEY played host to some of the UK’s best road cyclists on Saturday (July 15) as the town hosted the Dudley Grand Prix.
The event, organised by British Cycling and Dudley Council, formed part of the Black Country Day celebrations and saw food stalls, music and commentary laid on as competitors battled for the top spot on the podium.
The day concluded with the men’s and women’s National Circuit Series competitions. Lucy Glover took top position in the women’s race while remarkable scenes saw Jim Brown stealing the lead in the men’s event.
The regional amateur race was taken by Simon Wyllie. Junior races and a community ride were also held.
Winners were presented with medals at podiums placed in Stone Street Square by Dudley Council dignitaries.
Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said the races had "put Dudley back into the cycling spotlight once again" after the Commonwealth Games cycling time trials last summer.
He added: "The Dudley Grand Prix event has been outstanding, and I would like to thank and congratulate everyone involved in making this sporting event such a huge success."
Councillor Andrea Goddard, Mayor of Dudley, said: "Despite the wet weather it was great to see so many people turn out to enjoy the spectacle of these races, both from within the region and from outside it."
