PLANS for an Asda and Starbucks drive-thru on the plot of a landmark Halesowen building have been announced.

A bid to demolish the huge former House and Haven showroom on the corner of Mucklow Hill and Long Lane has gone in to Dudley Council with a series of objections from local residents already lodged.

Now proposals to build an Asda and a drive-thru Starbucks in its place are in the pipeline, with a planning application set to be lodged with Dudley Council in the coming weeks.

Halesowen North councillor Stuart Henley said on his Facebook page that he has been liaising with developer JLE Ventures.

He said: "I am writing to provide you with an update on the plans for the previous location of 3D Kitchens.

"After communicating over the last week with the representative for JLE Ventures, I would like to inform you that they are proposing to demolish the existing building and construct an Asda retail unit, along with a cafe with a drive-through Starbucks coffee shop.

"These plans will be submitted to the council in the coming weeks, and you will have the opportunity to express your support or opposition during the planning process.

"Furthermore, the agent is open to receiving any inquiries, concerns, or other feedback through me.

"If you have any questions or wish to share your thoughts, please feel free to reach out, and they will address all inquiries received."

One person commented saying: "The same thing exists about 800 metres up the road where the Kings Highway used to be.

"What a stupid reason to cause issues at an already busy junction."

Twenty three objections to the demolition have been lodged with Dudley Council.

One states: "I object to the demolition of this landmark building.

"Dating back over 60 years, previously Bells Garage, then Street Bike, then a bathroom showroom.

"The building is a prominent and distinctive part of Halesowen.

"Too much of Halesowen and our history has been eroded, and this building is part of that."
