TITANIC has been named Birmingham’s favourite ever 90s film, new national research has revealed.
The study, conducted by Showcase Cinemas, saw the James Cameron epic pick up 14 per cent of the vote, edging out The Shawshank Redemption (nine per cent) and The Lion King (nine per cent).
On a national level, 1990s hit The Shawshank Redemption (16 per cent) has been crowned the UK’s favourite movie of all time, beating out competition from James Cameron’s epic Titanic (15 per cent) and 70s cultural phenomenon Star Wars (14 per cent).
The survey, carried out to celebrate Showcase’s Flashback film series, also revealed the nation’s top 10 favourite movies from the 1990s.
Screening at Showcase Cinemas nationwide, ‘Flashback to the 90s’ kicked off on March 29 with Fight Club - giving film fanatics chance to enjoy some of the best films from one of the UK’s favourite movie decades.
After Fight Club, released 25 years ago and starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, Sci-fi action film Demolition Man returns to the big screen on Friday April 12, followed by Danny Boyle’s cult classic Trainspotting from May 24.
The following month, film fans rewatch sci-fi favourite The Matrix – also celebrating its 25th anniversary - from June 14, followed by superhero classic Blade on July 12.
Tickets for all films are priced at £6.99.
Delving into what makes a film our favourite, nearly two thirds (62 per cent) of Brits said their number one film is one they can re-watch time and time again, while almost a third of respondents (30 per cent) said their favourite film reminds them of a specific period in their life.
Jon Dixon, UK marketing director at Showcase Cinemas, said: “The 1990s has provided us with some of the most memorable movie moments of all time, so it’s no surprise to see Titanic crowned Birmingham’s favourite film of the decade.
“Our 90s flashback film series promises to provide cinemagoers with some of the classics from that period, so we’re excited to see film fans sit back and relive some of the moments on the big screen once again.”
