MEMBERS of a Labour club in Colley Gate which was sold for £300k will get their share of the money, a local councillor has pledged.

Cradley Labour Club, also known as Wilson Hall, was sold to Shireland Inn Ltd before Christmas, with work currently underway to turn it into a bar and grill.

Once the club's debts have been paid off the remains of the sale monies will be shared amongst around 100 members - some of whom have complained that they are being left in the dark.

Cradley councillor Tim Crumpton, who was asked by club members to deal with the sale, said: "I'm dealing with it in my spare time - we have paid off most of the debts now - there are just four debts remaining.

"They have been transferred from one debt firm to another and I have been trying to get hold of them to let me know how much is owed.

"That is the hold up.

"All the money is safe and we have a full membership list.

"Once we have paid everything then we will contact the members by post and arrange a meeting and they will be asked to come along with their bank details and the cash will be transferred on the day.

"I'm just doing it as a Labour councillor to help people."

Tim said he is not benefitting financially as he gave up his membership years ago.

Member Gema Clews said she had not been informed about what is going on.

She said: "Me, my family and other members have been asking for answers on the Wilson hall since before it sold.

"None of us have had any letters.

She added: "We feel we've been left in the dark and pushed aside."

The huge building closed in December 2021 after damage due to flooding and the Covid-19 pandemic meant it could not survive as a viable business.

Debts include a £26,495 award for unfair dismissal by former employee Stephen Smith.

There are around 100 members.
