A THRIVING family-run Romsley butchers is expanding after outgrowing its current base.
David Withers Butchers on St Kenelms Road has taken over an empty clothes shop next door and will open its new premises tomorrow (Saturday June 8).
The current shop had become too small for its needs and the new property has been set up next door to enable it to sell a new range of hot food including breakfast sandwiches and hot pork rolls as well as handmade cakes and takeaway coffees.
A dry agar has been installed for steaks.
The former clothes shop is now the butchers and the former butchers is an extra prep area, which will not be open to the public.
The butchers has been a focal part of the community since opening in 1990 and has grown over the years from just two members of staff to a team of ten.
It sells everything from beef joints and chickens to ready meals and a range of bbq food and also has a large deli counter offering meat pies, scotch eggs, quiche and pork pies.
Most of the meat sold comes from the family's farm Lowlands on Iley Lane.
Tom Withers, aged 32, is the fifth generation of his family to farm on 400 acres next to the M5.
His wife Beth Withers said: "When my father-in-law was growing up on the farm, there wasn’t the full-time work to support him, so he went off and trained to be a butcher before setting up on his own.
"He has run the local butcher’s shop, just two miles down the road, for 30 years since.
"Over that time, it has grown and grown.
“We have complete control over what goes into the shop from the farm.
“The majority of what is sold is made on-site.
"All the pastry for our pies, the pie fillings, the pasties, sausages – everything is prepped daily, from scratch.
"We have a great team of butchers and bakers.
“The emotion that goes into farming follows the produce through into the farm shop.
"The expansion will allow us to offer a new range of hot food to include serving breakfast sandwiches and hot pork rolls, a choice of handmade cakes and takeaway coffees."
The new shop based at 99 Bromsgrove Road, Romsley, will be open Mon - Fri from 8am till 5pm and on Saturdays from 7am till 4pm.
