A WOMAN who was hit by a car today has died, police have confirmed.

The 20-year-old woman was hit on West Boulevard in Quinton at around 8.45am this morning (Monday June 24).

A dog she was walking at the time was also injured and sadly died.

Police and medics were called to the scene with the main road closed off for hours.

Despite the best efforts of bystanders and paramedics the woman could not be saved and was declared dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "A woman has tragically died after being hit by a car in Quinton this morning.

"We were called to West Boulevard at just before 8.45am.

"A 20-year-old woman sustained serious injuries and was confirmed dead a short time later.

"Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this devastating time.

"A dog she was walking at the time was also injured and sadly died.

"The driver remained at the scene and is currently helping with our enquiries."

The incident happened between Barnes Hill and Quinton Road West wit police appealing for witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival, crews found the pedestrian, a woman, in a critical condition.

“Bystanders were providing basic life support and ambulance crews immediately took over to administer advanced life support.

“Sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, she could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene.”
