HUNDREDS of people braved the rain to visit a historic Halesowen garden's open event at the weekend.
More than 300 people visited the 18th-century Leasowes Walled Garden on Saturday (August 24) to celebrate the tenth anniversary of when it was saved by Halesowen Abbey Trust.
The trust bought the site when it was up for sale to developers in 2014 to secure its future for the public.
Halesowen Abbey Trust spokesperson Carole Freer said: "In spite of poor weather, over three hundred people attended.
"It went very well.
"Volunteers did catering and made visitors welcome.
"Children were catered for and crafts were demonstrated. It was a successful day.
"Let’s look to the next 10 years of improvement of our garden, which is dedicated to public benefit in perpetuity."
Volunteers have been working hard over the last decade to restore the gardens, on Leasowes Lane, creating a beautiful garden with vegetable patches, an orchard, wildlife meadow and a pond.
A Just Giving appeal to raise £20k towards its continued restoration has raised just over £5k so far.
