A virtual dementia experience was hosted by a care company.

Home Instead, based in Stourbridge, Hagley, and Halesowen, organised the event in Hagley to give community partners an insight into living with the condition.

The experience was supported by medical research and used technology on a virtual dementia bus to replicate the sensory changes associated with the condition.

Peter Bath, co-owner of the company, said: "As well as raising awareness of dementia, the event helps to educate people about the condition whilst arming our partners and leaders in the community with much-needed advice on how to support people living with dementia."

The event was attended by the Mayor for Dudley, Councillor Hilary Bills, Stuart Henley, Councillor for Halesowen North Ward, and Steve Colella, Councillor for Bromsgrove District Council, as well as professionals from business, health, education, and community organisations.

Mr Bath added: "The experience was very immersive and made a real impact on everyone who took part.

"It is invaluable to learn from this first-person experience which we can pass on to our care professionals who support people who live with dementia every day.

"Everyone left the event with something that they can implement in their own worlds."

Home Instead supports people to live in their own homes, offering a range of services including specialist dementia care.
