A teenager has been charged with attempted murder following a “serious assault” that closed a railway station in Walsall yesterday.
18-year-old Deng Cholmajek was arrested and later charged following the incident which closed Bescot Stadium Station on October 21.
Emergency services were called to the station at around 11.25pm on October 20 to reports of a woman who had suffered injuries consistent with being stabbed.
She was treated for serious injuries at the scene before being blue-lighted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
The woman remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition and her next-of-kin are being supported by specialist officers.
Bescot Station has since reopened, with services operating as usual. However West Midlands Police have increased their presence in the area as they continue investigations.
Detective Chief Inspector from West Midlands Police, Paul Attwell, said: “I understand the concern this incident has caused, however, I would like to reassure the public this is an isolated incident and an 18-year-old man remains in custody.
“We are not seeking anyone else in connection.
"We continue to encourage any witnesses or anyone with information to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 11 of 21 October.
“Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111."
Cholmajek, of Bescot Crescent, Walsall is due to appear at Walsall Magistrates court later today.
