A man has died following a hit-and-run incident that closed part of the A34 in Aston.

West Midlands Police (WMP) were called to the Victoria Road junction at the Sixways Island shortly before 11.45pm last night, October 28, where two cars collided.

A Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and a Ford Focus were involved in the crash, with a passenger from the Ford Focus confirmed dead at the scene.

A man in his 20s, who was sat in the rear passenger seat of the Ford, was found to have sustained fatal injuries.

In a statement, WMP said: “Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this devastating time and we'll be doing all we can to support them.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) were called to the crash at 11.40pm, to reports of five injured passengers.

A spokesperson from the service said: “On arrival, crews found two cars had been involved in a collision with one ending up on its roof.

“There were five male patients, all from the same car.

“The first man was found in a critical condition receiving basic life support from emergency service colleagues.

“Ambulance staff immediately took over to administer advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, he could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene.

“A second man was treated by medics for serious injuries and conveyed on blue lights to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

“A third man received treatment for injuries not believed to be serious and was taken to the same hospital.

“The fourth and fifth patients were treated for minor injuries but did not wish to go to hospital and so were given self-care advice and discharged at the scene.”

The occupants from the Mitsubishi fled the scene.

Two teenagers were arrested after later appearing at a hospital early this morning, on October 29.

Two men, aged 18 and 19, have been detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remain in custody.

A 41-year-old man has been subsequently arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and also remains in custody.

WMP appealed for witnesses this morning and say they believe there was at least one other passenger who fled the Mitsubishi who has not yet been found.

They have asked anyone with dashcam footage of the incident or with any information to contact them via their website, by calling 101 and quoting incident 5679 of 28.10.2024 or by emailing investigators at SCIU@westmidlands.police.uk .

WMP said they are in the process of re-opening the affected part of the A34 this morning and have thanked the public for their patience.
