THIS is the face of Rowley Regis mother Jaskirat Kaur who has been sentenced to indefinite detention in a secure facility after killing her 10-year-old daughter.
Shay Kang was found dead at her home in Robin Close on March 4 after her mother, Jaskirat Kaur, also known as Jaskirat Kang, called emergency services to report the death of her child.
Kaur was arrested and admitted stabbing Shay the previous night and after a postmortem confirmed the little girl had been stabbed multiple times in the chest, Kaur was charged with murder.
The 33-year-old later admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility and on Friday October 25 she was given an indefinite hospital order in a secure facility.
The court was told psychiatrists determined Kaur had been suffering paranoid schizophrenia when she carried out the attack.
Detective Inspector Dan Jarratt, from the West Midlands Police homicide team, said: “This is a harrowing case for everyone involved.
“Kaur suffered a mental health episode at the time of the attack which led to her daughter’s death.
“Shay was a young girl with her whole life ahead of her. She has been described as a bright and happy child.
“Her death has had a profound impact on those who knew her as well as the wider community and our thoughts remain with everyone who loved her.”
