A WOMAN who was shocked when a rare pearl was found whilst dining at a seafood restaurant has had it made into a "beautiful" piece of jewellery completely free of charge.
Paige Hawkins was dining at The Quayside in Stourport with family to celebrate her 29th birthday in September and was given the perfect present when her fiancé Jimmy Lee bit into one of the mussels they had ordered only to discover a tiny pearl.
Kevin Bassam, who runs K Bassam Jewellers, was driving from his Stourbridge shop to his Kidderminster shop when he heard about Ms Hawkins' pearl on the radio.
He said: "I thought to myself - 'That's a great story.'
Ms Hawkins had previously stopped by the shop and Mr Bassam decided to reach out to her an offer to make her a pendant for the pearl free of charge.
He said: "We make it, we design it, it's all on the premises. I thought it was great just to help.
"Even though it's a tiny pearl it's made a beautiful piece of jewellery".
Ms Hawkins said: "I was so appreciative of the kind gesture from Kevin Bassam, we arranged an appointment for me to visit the shop to design the necklace.
"I told him I wanted something elegant. He then started to draw out the design of the necklace which instantly I absolutely loved.
"I returned to K Bassam jewellery shop once my necklace was finished and it was even better than I expected.
"Such a Beautiful piece of jewellery which I will treasure forever.
"This is a story I will always remember of how I became the girl with the pearl necklace".
Ms Hawkins got yet another surprise when she decided to return to the Quayside for a meal with her fiancé.
When they asked for their bill they were told that their meal for free of charge.
Ms Hawkins added that she was "totally blown away" by the kind gesture.
