A famous couple has praised a restaurant for being "the heart of the Midlands" and bringing people together from across the Black Country and beyond.

Staff at The Quayside in Stourport have revealed their shock and delight after Birmingham-born singer Toyah Wilcox and musician Robert Fripp described their food as "the best".

Verity Alexander, who works as front of house, said the team couldn't believe it when the musicians walked through the restaurant doors with some of their regular customers.

Describing the famous couple as "lovely", Ms Alexander said the visit was made even better when they saw The Quayside had got a special mention on their YouTube channel.

Ms Alexander said: "Toyah and Robert came in really lowkey with a couple of our regulars. They came in first and sat and chilled with a drink.

"As soon as I heard Toyah's voice, I knew exactly who she was. She is honestly so lovely and very humble."

Toyah said: "Our wonderful osteopath Andrew Leask who is just incredible took us to Stourport Marina where we ate at The Quayside which is actually in an industrial estate.

"The quay leads onto the River Severn and honestly if he hadn't warned us about the drive-in, I'd have thought oh what's going on here?

"But we really did have the best meal we've ever had."

He also went on to praise the small team for their hard work and described the food as having "stunning quality".

Toyah also shared some words on the variety of accents heard in the restaurant and described it as the "heart of the Midlands".

She added: "It was just incredible. The heart of the Midlands is in this restaurant. You could hear Black Country accents, Birmingham accents and Solihull accents. A lot of people even come from London to eat at the restaurant."

The team at The Quayside, which is co-owned by Scott Applegarth and Zoe Chapple, were "amazed" by Toyah and Robert's feedback on the restaurant and said they were welcome back any time.
