A VIDEO has gone viral on social media showing the shocking moment a hooded man took to the streets in Birmingham shooting fireworks out of a ‘gun’.

The disorder has been compared to ‘scenes like Star Wars’ after the man was captured shooting at least 50 fireworks towards people and buildings in the city centre.

People can be seen running for cover from the red blasts coming from the makeshift weapon near Aston University.

The clip, from the account ‘Birmz Is Grime’ has been viewed nearly 200,000 times online.

There were several reports of disorders involving fireworks in Birmingham around Bonfire Night, with West Midlands Police also being called to a separate incident near Baggot Street and Staniforth Street, where fireworks were being launched at people and police officers.

West Midlands Police arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of violent disorder, fireworks offences and assaulting an officer and an 18-year-old man on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, violent disorder and fireworks offences.

They also arrested a third teen, a 19-year-old man, for assaulting an officer. He was dealt with by community resolution.

In a third separate fireworks-related incident, West Midlands Police seized a haul of illegal fireworks that were being sold out of the back of a van in Handsworth on October 31.

In relation to the three incidents, a spokesperson for the force said: "We won't tolerate such appalling behaviour which we know is frightening for people and puts them at risk of harm.

"We have an investigation team reviewing footage and we will seek to prosecute anyone involved.

"We'll have another tough focused policing operation in place today, and over the coming days, to keep our communities safe."
