HUNDREDS of people gathered to pay tribute to the sacrifices of British servicemen and women at a Remembrance Sunday service in Halesowen.
Members of the public joined current and former servicemen and women, community groups and dignitaries to remember the country’s fallen heroes yesterday (Sunday November 10).
Veterans, military personnel, cadets, firefighters, guides and scouts joined the procession through the town centre to St John's Church, with music provided by the Halesowen Scout Band.
Halesowen MP Alex Ballinger, who served eight years with the Royal Marines, twice deploying to Afghanistan, said: "It was an honour to join the Deputy Lord Lieutenant and veterans at St John's Church for a moving Remembrance Parade and Service.
"A privilege to lay a wreath remembering all those from Halesowen who fell in service to their country.
"Lest we forget."
There was also a Remembrance Service at Shell Corner in Halesowen on the evening of November 8 with around 150 people in attendance.
It was organised by Halesowen North councillor Stuart Henley.
Stuart said: "This solemn occasion provides an opportunity for our community to come together in reflection and gratitude for the sacrifices made by those who have served in the armed forces.
"Since its inception in 2018, this event has grown in significance, seeing increased attendance each year.
"It has become a key date on our local calendar, symbolising our commitment to remembering and honouring our heroes. The Shell, located at Shell Corner, was created with the vision of providing a dedicated space for remembrance and reflection, highlighting our community's deep-rooted heritage.
"With around 100 to 150 attendees, we gathered to pay tribute to all those who fought to secure the freedoms we enjoy today.
"We were honoured to welcome the Deputy Lieutenant, our MP, veterans, Councillors Bills and Henley, along with local businesses and residents, all coming together to listen and share stories.
"It is truly heartening to see the event grow year on year, reflecting our strong community commitment to remembrance and gratitude."
