BLUNDERING Education minister Michael Gove has promised to visit Sandwell and review the decision to axe the borough’s Building Schools for the Future scheme.
Sandwell Council Leader Councillor Darren Cooper met the Education Minister Michael Gove after the Government’s U-Turn over Sandwell schools hit the national headlines.
Cllr Cooper said: “The Secretary of State asked to see me and we have had a very positive meeting during which he has agreed to review his decision to stop the programme.
“He has assured me he was extremely sorry about the mess created around the decision on the Sandwell schools.
“He also indicated that, at my request, he will come to Sandwell and meet privately with head teachers and council members and officers officially to explain the situation and apologize in person."
Generations of pupils will be affected if the government goes ahead with proposed cutbacks to the BSF scheme.
Perryfields and Bristnall Hall schools in Oldbury were both told they would be rebuilt on Monday only for the Government to say they had made a mistake the next day.
