OLD Halesonians RFC maintained pressure on the leading pack in Midlands One West with a 34-0 bonus point win at home to Lichfield.
Both sides went into the game believing they could win having split last season’s meetings but in the end Hales simply ran away with it.
They didn’t start well. After enjoying the majority of the possession in the opening exchanges they welcomed somewhat of a let off as the visiting side failed to take advantage of ill-discipline by missing two penalties.
OH replied with a penalty of their own soon after from full back Chris Hooper, who went on to record a 19 point haul.
The remainder of the half was total domination from the hosts as they ran in three quick and well worked tries.
Centre Andy Robinson went over first following a sustained period of pressure and numerous phases. Further tries from Hooper and hooker Keiran Price, scoring on his debut, both of which were as a result of forced errors created by good pressure.
Hooper converted two of the three tries for OH to go into half-time with a deserved 22-0 lead.
Lichfield started the second half with added gusto and had the majority of territory for the second period. But were left downhearted when further excellent defence provided a turnover for Hooper to scoot away for another try.
Winger Simon Sable touched down near to the posts for the final try, with Hooper’s subsequent conversion completing the scoring.
