RESIDENTS are up in arms over “ridiculous” double yellow lines which have been installed down both sides of their Halesowen street.
People living in Shelton Lane said the move means they have nowhere to park their cars and has led to traffic speeding past their homes.
Tina Tomlinson said she was “absolutely distraught” when the yellow lines were put in on Friday (May 25).
They were also installed on Colman Hill, which leads onto Shelton Lane.
Mrs Tomlinson, a mobile hairdresser and mother of two, who only has space for one car on her drive, said: “There was no warning. I have been lying in bed thinking will anyone ever visit us again?
“It’s an absolute nightmare because it’s a hill so when cars parked along the road it slowed them down - but now they just tank down there.”
Resident Alan Lawless, aged 44, now has to park his family’s second car in a side street 50 yards from his house.
He said: ”It’s complete and utter madness.
“These yellow lines have increased the speed of traffic - it’s ridiculous.”
Audrey Pritchard, aged 80, who has lived in the street for 62 years, said she was “shocked “ at the move and complained visitors now had nowhere to park.
Malcolm Poole, aged 75, said: “What is terrifying is the speed of traffic coming down here now - there will be a child or a pedestrian killed. Probably that’s the only way the council will take notice.
“I saw a car doing about 60 mph down here.”
Mr Poole said he also feared the move had devalued properties.
Mrs Tomlinson and a string of her neighbours have complained to Dudley Council.
Councillor Judy Foster, Dudley Council’s cabinet member for transportation, said: "The scheme for Colman Hill and Shelton Lane was requested by residents through their councillors.
“The community was consulted on proposals for double yellow lines, via local press and signs on lampposts in the area, in line with legal requirements.
"The new regulations along Shelton Lane and Colman Hill will keep traffic moving along the busy steep hill. They were part of a wider review of parking regulations across the Halesowen area.
“We will continue to monitor the situation over the coming months."
