HALESOWEN will hope to put their inconsistent league form behind them on Saturday as they target a lucrative run in the FA Cup Yeltz go to East Midland Counties Premier side Ellistown & Ibstock United and will start as hot favourites to progress to the third qualifying round which would scoop them £4,000 in the process.
But they can take nothing for granted as Ellistown have already come through three rounds of the competition knocking out former league club Hereford United in the process.
Meanwhile, boss John Hill watched as his side lost 1-0 at Ashton United in the Northern Premier League Premier on Saturday, a fourth defeat in six league games.
Chairman Colin Brooks said: “It’s the FA Cup and it’s massive for both clubs.
“It’s going to attract the attention of the public because of who we are play. They are a couple of divisions lower but on their day day they are capable of beating people, and in the last round they did just that beating Hereford.
“That reminds you of what the FA Cup is all about and that’s the beauty of it, anyone on their day can beat anybody, and I’m sure John will be reminding our players about the potential pitfalls.”
l Halesowen are scheduled to be at home to League One side Coventry City in the Birmingham Senior Cup on Tuesday (7.45pm).
That game is subject to the outcome of Saturday’s FA Cup tie as should that finish in a draw the replay will take precedence. To encourage fans along the club have reduced admission to £5 for adults and concessions, £2 for under 16s and under 12s accompanied by an adult go in for free.
Brooks said: “From what we understand the Sky Blues will be sending a fairly strong team along for this so hopefully we can get a decent crowd.”
