HALESOWEN Cycling Academy enjoyed another successful week of racing.
Following on from her fine first place the previous weekend, Kinga Ingram took the runner-up spot in the subsequent round of the National Omnium series - the omnium being a series of different races on the track including a traditional race called a 'scratch race', a time trial, a keirin, a points race (where points get awarded on position on specific laps) and an elimination race where the last placed rider drops out each lap.
Kinga's win in the elimination and the keirin ensured she took overall second, with team-mate Isla Blain also competing in typical determined fashion.
In the U14 contest, Ellie Swingell also built on her exploits from the previous weekend to take a podium finish in third. Both Kinga Ingram and Ellie Swingell have now qualified for the National finals later this year.
Elsewhere, first year junior Josh Field took first place in a local criterium (typically a circuit based hour long race) leaving the senior riders in his wake.
In a field of 30 there was an aggressive start to the race with multiple attacks with Josh prominent in the attempts to get away from the pack and initiating a two-man break.
Although caught, Josh quickly attacked again getting away with three others including team-mate Henry Lloyd Langston. This group worked well together and lapped the field.
Coming into the final bend Josh sat in third place, followed the second wheel and then gave everything on the final corner taking the inside line and sprinting to victory and clocking an average speed for the race of over 26mph.
In another Worcestershire criterium during the week, national cross rider and academy rider Simon Wylie also took first place for Halesowen, who are benefitting from the assistance of main sponsor Wenlock Spring mineral water and OTE, ProVision and Epic Cycles.
