The start of November has marked the beginning of the festive season, bringing along with it, the popular Frankfurt Christmas Market.

First introduced in 2001, the Frankfurt christmas market is said to be the largest authentic German Christmas market outside of Germany and Austria.

This year marks the 24th year of the market being open and has undergone many significant changes over the years.

For instance, the sheer size has increased exponentially since 2001; when it originally only had 24 stalls.

I visited the market on its second day open and was pleasantly surprised by the large footfall and vast choices of foods, drinks and souvenirs.

The pricing varies from £9.00 for a ½ metre bratwurst, £12.50 for a pint of beer and a box of 9 marshmallows for £10 which I thoroughly devoured.

The prices were mostly consistent from last year and there was truly something for everyone, whether it be alcohol and food for the adults or even seasonal treats such as donuts and hot chocolate for children.

In an interview with one of the visitors of the German market, Kyrian, said “I have been visiting for 10 yrs” “I thoroughly enjoy the food and the ambience and think it is a great way to kick off the festive season” “They are a bit expensive but you don’t spend it everyday, its like once every year”.

The Christmas market offers a variety of seasonal goods, including festive ornaments, available in a 3-for-£10 offer, and winter essentials like cozy hats and gloves. These items make for perfect gifts or practical additions to keep visitors warm while enjoying the holiday atmosphere.

For those interested in visiting the christmas market, the timings are as follows:

Nearby attractions add even more excitement to the Christmas market, with an ice rink and adrenaline-pumping rides, including the iconic big wheel.

A ride on the big wheel offers stunning panoramic views of Birmingham’s skyline, showcasing landmarks like the Library of Birmingham, Council House, Town Hall, and Brindley Place, along with Britain’s largest German Christmas Market below.

Right next to the big wheel, visitors can enjoy the magic of outdoor ice skating inside a covered rink, where you can glide under the festive lights without worrying about the weather—a perfect way to embrace the holiday spirit in the heart of Birmingham.
